What is Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) ?
| |
VCCI is a Vietnamese organization that is like a combination between Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Japan Federation of Employers' Associations. There are many of such organizations in Japan but in Vietnam there is only one VCCI
|
How many enterprises are there in Vietnam ?
| |
There have been totally around 2700 up to April this year but only around 1700 are actually in operation. Most of the major enterprises are joint-stocks. That is, their current affiliated model of operation is inherited from that of national business enterprise era. |
What types of business are most popular ?
| |
Services (Trading companies)! That includes also manufacturing industry. It is not uncommon in Vietnam for a enterprise itself to perform import-export operation of its manufactured products. |
What support does VCCI offer business enterprises ?
| |
The adjustment of schedules, business appointments etc in case of visiting overseas'enterprises, for example, are done by the Department of International Affairs I visited.
Their basic task, also their existence's primary purpose, is to support business enterprises, that they also resolve workers'strike problems is thus another typical example.
Supports for large size company are done mainly in Hanoi VCCI's head office. |
There have been several strikes recently in foreign invested companies including Japanese ones, how have they happened?
| |
Recent strikes are pretty much different from previous ones, as it is not that labor union plans to carry out the strikes, it is the laborers themselves who
go on strike voluntarily, so even you can not admit yourselves it is hard to find out a solution to such a problem. Together with labor union, you make up a team to think up a solution to meet workers' needs for the tension to be released. |
How about the problem of high inflation rate in Vietnam ?
| |
Recently it has been said that the inflation rate is 11.6% but the trade balance is still completely excessive of import.
For a reason, 2% of the rich people still spend money on luxerious things. Also, we can see that savings are getting worse. That means the saving money is being used to purchase money. Although the saving rate is 12%, inflation rate is 11.6%. In fact, there have recently been cases in which some banks refuse to offer loans to some businesspeople such that these businesspeople have to borrow money from their relatives. |
Is it true that there are many talented businesswomen in Vietnam ?
| |
Yes, it is. There are many businesswomen. Despite the different fields they are working in, businesswomen as managers of construction companies, of garment making enterprises etc are very energetic. That also reminds me of an incentive program which has just been started since 3 years ago to commend successful businesswomen as Golden Roses. Also, this is the 18th year World Women Conference is to be held in Hanoi. We can expect much more from businesswomen in the future, can't we ? |
<<P.S>>
| This was my visit to Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI)'s office in Ho Chi Minh City. Ms Binh, who has 20 years of work experience in Department of International Affairs and has been experiencing the stages of Vietnamese economic development, accepted my interview for her persuasive talks. Her words also reveal a profound knowledge of national economy and corporate culture. Department of International Affairs is currently offering full support to major Japanese enterprises doing businesses in Vietnam, and I suppose there are many of them still in need of Ms Binh's advice. I was able to have a pleasant interview with a very open-hearted person. |
