Our business establishment in Vietnam 10 years ago
| |
In order to meet Japanese users's needs of technical services, which is also our intention to expand further our business, our company has chosen Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City) as another location in South East Asia to establish our fifth branch.
|
Could you tell me about your company's main activities ?
| |
We specialize in manufacturing and selling chemical products to process metal surface.
It does not matter at all for a company to have only one Japanese director working with Vietnamese executive officers. |
Would you please tell me about the current trend of automobile and steel industry in Vietnam ?
| |
A. Before joining AFTA and WTO, government's reactions to tax problems are vague, car industry gets smaller.
The automobile industry's work force is about 200,000 people, the Vietnamese market is small. There are 11 foreign invested enterprises in this field. The number of cars sold each year can be listed as: 42600/2003, 40100/2004,35300/2005.
There are a number of problems about parking lots, transportation that the current infrastructure can not support (we can not expect on-the-fly development). The government issues a local enterprise a license but its product quality is doubtful. We also sell chemical products for metal surface treatment to local enterprises.
B. There are around 30 companies in steel industry. When some companies earn better profits, others will jump in at once. There are about 10 big companies. Chinese products also appear in the market, and Vietnamese products decrease in number this year. The government have already accepted big iron and steel projects and I think that this industry will develop more in the future. |
With the experience acquired via your business services of metal surface processing technology in Vietnam, do you do any other types of business besides automobile and steel ? Also, do you sell your products to foreign enterprises ?
| |
Currently, our market is expanded to all over Vietnam, the sale ratios are 40% for Japanese companies, 10 % for other foreign companies, and 50% for government's corporations and local enterprises.
Besides car and steel, we do businesses in others as well, according to related fields
-> 2 wheels related (30%)
-> 4 wheels related (15%)
-> iron and steel related (15%)
-> aluminum can (10%)
-> steel furniture-metals(20%)
-> others (10%)
Sales in can packaging market increase about 20% each year, the number will become higher in the future. |
How do you evaluate Vietnamese engineers/workers ?
Good! They have high skills -> Let them do their jobs!
And about work assignment among Japanese and Vietnamese ?
| |
My company system has one Japanese (director), and I choose the Vietnamese to be heads of other departments such as manufacturing, technique, business, accountancy but there haven't been any actual big problem. However, it is necessary to emphasize the main point that company's president is each department's main director. |
Including ASEAN and China, could you tell me about the business development in the future
| |
Sales in the North consume 45% of our company's total sales. We own an office and a warehouse in Hanoi. We are planning to build a factory in a near future. |
I hear that your company has been doing businesses in Vietnam for ten years, how do you feel ?
- I am the second manager coming to Vietnam, and has led my life here for 6 years. I can feel vigorously that Vietnam is under development. Social order is good, I find it peaceful and safe here.
- There are many Japanophiles in Vietnam, and they have high working skills.
- I think those I employed all have good working abilities, and we have run out businesses smoothly.
- There have been more jobs lately, and although we seem to have some recruitment problem, we do not have a hard time to employ any because our company has only a few employees.
- There are still such problems as government's policy changes and administrative procedures that need enterprises to present so many documents etc, but the GNP surely increases, and we can expect the development of the economy in the future.
- In case of our company, our purpose to do businesses in Vietnam is to provide services and technologies for Japanese companies, but we also accept requests from domestic enterprises, and since our market share exceeds 70%, you can say we are making a great business success in the country.
